i bought beyond the sword thinking "a few new leaders and scenarios would be fun," and after the first week was astounded by the thought put into this. amazing. i had been playing civilization for more than a year and thought that the vanilla version was superb and the best it could get. i had not been expecting the new unit abilities and promotions, or the new espionage feature. the privateers, blockade trade routes, and air unit combat are the best improvements i can think of now, but there are countless more.
If you love startegy games this is a must buy. I have always heard about the Civ Games and never tried until Civ IV, and this is a great game for any lover of strategy games. Ease of use, but the depth of the options and decisions in this game are incredible.I recommend this as a must buy.
this game is lots of fun, especially in next war mode. if u like strategy games buy this game, you won't regret it.
The downside of the game is that it is time-consuming, one game can easily last 10 hours. It introduces 10 new civilizations, several new buildings, and leaders. Civilization 4 Beyond the Sword is a fun expansion pack to the original game. On the upside, generations (parents and their children) can play together. One of the scenarios, RFC (Rhye's and fall of civilization), adds new wonders and you can change your civilization mid-game because of the historical beginning. Other scenarios include world at war, mesoamerica, and next war. Depending on the scenario, it is surprising how heated the discussions on the next move can become. This is not a good game for impatient people, but a good game to learn about history, strategy, and ultimately your own character traits.
Overall, this is a nice expansion to an already great game and is well worth the price (I got it used). I actually like to old spies better.
There are some pretty cool mods and scenerios added here. This is a very good expansion pack for the Civ4 game.
Personally, I don't think it adds much and I never bother with it. The actual gameplay for the basic game doesn't seem to have changed much.
A lot of work went into re-doing the whole espionage aspect of the game. I really liked the addition of the future techs and units even though the game will usually end before you get to do much with them.
Highly recommended.
